Monarch butterfly is most familiar North American butterfly, and is considered an iconic pollinator species.

Monarch butterflies are the most beautiful of all butterflies, some say, and are considered the "king" of the butterflies, hence the name "monarch".

In North America, monarchs migrate both north and south on an annual basis.In both caterpillar and butterfly form, monarchs are aposematic–warding off predators with a bright display of contrasting colors to warn potential predators of their undesirable taste and poisonous characteristics.
